Waterproofing Your Basement
DIRECTIONS
Remove any objects near your concrete basement walls. Clean the wall surface thoroughly to remove dirt, grease and other contaminants that can prevent the waterproofer from adhering properly.
Remove any efflorescence – a powdery white deposit found on many concrete surfaces – with WATERTITE™ Etch & Cleaner for Concrete and Masonry. Rinse the surface thoroughly with water. Allow excess water to evaporate.
Remove any mold and mildew with a solution of one cup bleach to one gallon water.
If the basement is already painted, remove as much of the existing paint as possible. Patch all holes and cracks, especially those that show signs of active water leaks, with WATERTITE™ Hydraulic Cement. To stop active and non-active water leaks, seal the joint where the floor and wall meet with WATERTITE™ Polyurethane Sealant.
Once the walls have been cleaned and cracks have been repaired, liberally apply the first coat of WATERTITE™ Mold and Mildew-Proof™* Waterproofing Paint using a thick synthetic brush, or a large nap roller, to a small section of the masonry. WATERTITE™, available in an oil-base and latex-base formula, is guaranteed to stop water and offers a five-year mold and mildew-proof paint film guarantee.
Using a brush, work the coating into the pores of the masonry to produce a continuous pinhole-free film.
Wait two to three hours before applying a second coat with a brush or roller. Allow to dry.

Tip: WATERTITE™ can also be applied to concrete floors before installing carpeting, tile, linoleum and other flooring to prevent ground water from seeping through the floor and ruining your new flooring.

*WATERTITE™ contains a mildewcide to prevent growth of mold and mildew on the paint film only.
