PROBLEM: Sauk Theater, a community theater group that produces live productions, was looking to revitalize the concrete floor in their auditorium and dressing rooms. The floor was the original one from the 1920’s and was badly scarred, pitted and patched. The work on the 2,400 square foot floor needed to be done by volunteers with the seats in place. They were looking for something that was easy to use, easy to clean-up and had no or minimal odor.
SOLUTION: Sierra Performance S40 Water Based Epoxy Floor Coating was chosen because of their application and performance characteristics. It was found that the coating went on very easily without any solvent odor and dried fast. Paint pads were used as the primary application tool since the volunteers were working around the seats, while a roller was used on the dressing room floors. The most pleasant surprise to the crew was the ease with which “mistakes” were corrected. With volunteers doing the work, paint occasionally found its way on to the carpeting and fabric-covered seats, which was easily cleaned with soap and water. The Sierra S40 coating and about 25 hours of volunteer labor have improved the appearance of the theater “beyond belief”, according to the project manager for the Sauk Theater.
