The general appearance of the facility is an important concern for any company, especially a major international pharmaceutical company. They are constantly experiencing audits from the United States Food and Drug Administration as well as similar organizations from various other countries. The maintenance crew was constantly re-applying an epoxy floor coating to keep various areas looking well maintained. While using their current coating, they would receive complaints about the solvent odor. Because of this, employees were constantly being inconvenienced and asked to avoid the area every time the maintenance crew had to re-paint. In addition, there was a lot of work involved in shutting the area down, preparing the surface, applying the coating and waiting for the coating to dry.
The facility maintenance manager realized that a heavy-duty epoxy was called for. They needed one that would last longer than their current coating, withstand fork-lift traffic, provide a great appearance and have a low odor. They chose the Rust-Oleum Concrete Saver 6500 System 100% Solids Epoxy. This product was chosen for its low-odor, smooth appearance and its proven ability to withstand tough vehicle traffic. To prepare the floor, the area was power washed and then scuff sanded to promote adhesion. Once the floor was properly prepared, the coating was applyed using a squeegee.
The facility maintenance team was so pleased with this project that other areas were inspected and prioritized for repair. The company was previously purchasing paint annually with the other epoxy they were using. Now with Rust-Oleum’s Concrete Saver 6500 System 100% Solids Epoxy, they would not have to purchase paint for three to five years or more depending on the amount of abuse the floor actually receives. Because they would not have to re-coat the floor as often, they saved even more money on the labor involved in the constant reapplication. Overall, the floor looked better than the old floor coating, would last much longer and ultimately save them significant amounts of time and money.
