The facility maintenance team at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center was experiencing problems with the floors in the mechanical rooms and aisle ways throughout the hospital. The coatings they previously used did not stand up well to pedestrian and wheeled traffic and debonded in areas exposed to water. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center also wanted a coating that was easy to clean by mopping and would provide slip resistance. Skid resistant tape was being regularly put down onto the ramps, but these proved impractical because they wore out so quickly.
A flooring contractor, Resinous Flooring Systems, recommended Rust-Oleum's Concrete Protection Systems 8200 System OverKote® TX, a two-component 100% solids textured floor coating that has an attractive, durable finish. Because the surface is textured, it provides good skid resistance yet is easy to clean. In the aisles where wheeled traffic is pushed up and down inclines and ramps, a small amount of special sand was added into the textured surface to provide additional slip resistance. 8200 System OverKote® TX is ideal for applications such as high traffic areas, chemical or wet process areas, kitchens, lunchrooms, lavatories or any area requiring slip resistance and good clean ability.
8200 System OverKote® TX passed the contractor’s testing and the facility manager agreed that it was the coating of choice and it would be used on more than 75,000 square feet of floor. The floors were prepared by diamond grinding using Rust-Oleum 16" Grind n Go machines, and they were primed and coated using special TX rollers supplied by Rust-Oleum. Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center was impressed at how well the 8200 System OverKote® TX met all the required characteristics. The system has been down since September 2004 and the facility manager has not experienced any problems with the coating. Several other projects in New York City are now in process using Rust-Oleum products.
