  1. Spread old sheets or a drop cloth on the ground outdoors to protect surfaces from paint.
  2. Remove gold fireplace accents from fireplace by pulling both sides from the magnets underneath.
  3. Sand all the gold accent pieces with 220-grit sandpaper, and remove dust with lint-free cloth.
  4. Set the gold accents on the drop cloth or old sheets.
  5. Hold the paint can 8-12” from the surface, and begin lightly covering the surface in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. The first coat should be applied lightly with 50 percent coverage. You’ll still see gold sheen through the first coat.
  6. Apply 3-4 light coats, waiting 2-3 minutes between each, then allow them to fully dry.
  7. Replace the accents on the fireplace.
