Not only is this project a beautiful centerpiece, it also makes a fantastic conversation piece as well.

  1. To begin make your cuts first from the material above. You can alter the dimensions to make the piece fit the size of your table.

  2. Next create “pocket holes” by drilling 1 ½” holes into each of the 5” pieces of wood then attach them to the 32” 2-3 pieces with 2” pocket hole screws.

From here, we finished all of the pieces before assembling the rest of the actual crate. We used Carrington, one of our favorite Varathane stains, as the base coat.

You just wipe one coat on every piece, let sit for 5 minutes - then wipe again with clean cloth.

  3. From here, add 2 coats of Heirloom White by Rust-Oleum, one of our all-time favorites.

  4. Take your 2 sheets of patterned metal and cut straight down the middle with a pair of scissors.

  5. Cut two smaller pieces from the metal to fit at either end of your crate. Attach the metal sheets to the inside of each frame.

  6. Assemble all sides of the crate using strong wood glue and 2” nails.

  7. Flip the completed crate over and attach the 1x3 boards with ¼” nails to formbottom of the crate.

  8. To add a distressed look to the stain/paint, go over the crate with 80-grit sand paper. This allows for the stain and bare wood to peek through providing a unique vintage look.

  9. Now fill it with 7 empty wine bottles and add a flower to each bottle for that creative touch.
