Chalkboard ornaments are the perfect way to personalize your tree. Here’s how to make custom chalkboard ornaments with jar lids and Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Spray Paint.
PREPARE: Working in a well-ventilated area, cover your surroundings with a drop cloth to protect from overspray. Wipe down the Mason jar lids with a tack cloth to remove any dirt and dust.
PAINT: Shake your can of Rust-OIeum Chalkboard Spray Paint for one minute after the mixing ball starts to rattle. Hold the can 12-16” away from the flat part of the lid and apply several light coats of spray paint a few minutes apart until the jar lids are thoroughly covered.
FINISH: Let the Chalkboard Spray Paint cure for at least 24 hours. Then, rub the side of a piece of chalk over the entire chalkboard surface on each lid. This will condition the chalkboard. Wipe away the chalk with a chalkboard eraser or dry cloth. To finish the ornaments, glue the flat piece into the ring of the lid and decorate as you wish.
