A cloffice is a great way to maximize your space while giving you a dedicated place to do your work. Turn an unused closet into a closet office and personalize it with a coat of Studio Color Wall Paint!

  1. First, inspect your closet walls for any cracks or holes. We recommend using DAP spackling products to repair any minor wall damage prior to painting. After applying spackle, sand walls to a smooth surface using Gator Finishing products.
  2. Clean your closet wall with a mild, non-oily soap prior to painting. After cleaning, let the surface dry completely before painting.
  3. If putting a lighter paint color over an existing dark color, or if your closet surface is new drywall or bare wood, begin by applying a paint primer such as Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3.
  4. Before painting the walls, apply painter’s tape to protect baseboards and other areas including trim, molding and light fixtures. Take care to ensure a tight seal when applying painter’s tape to ensure paint does not seep underneath the tape. A drop cloth or plastic sheeting is also suggested to protect your floors.
  5. Be sure to properly mix your paint with a stir stick before pouring into a paint tray.
  6. Using a high-quality, angled brush, cut in around the trim and the top and bottom areas of your closet wall first. Without reloading your brush, make a second pass at your first stroke. Finish by feathering out the edge and drag the tips of the bristles lightly over the outside line to help spread the paint. This technique will provide a smooth appearance after roller application. Be sure to keep a wet edge and not let the brushed paint dry before rolling paint onto wall.
  7. Using a high-quality roller with a 3/8”-1/2” nap, apply paint in a “W” motion from top to bottom, working in small sections until it is completely filled in. Overlap your strokes for best coverage and be sure the roller is consistently reloaded with paint to keep a wet edge. Painting in a “W” motion will ensure equal distribution of paint and even coverage on the wall of your closet office.
  8. When paint is dry to the touch, but still slightly tacky, gently remove the painter’s tape. Remove slowly to ensure paint doesn’t pull up with the tape.
  9. Use a mild, non-oily soap and warm water to clean paint tools and any spills or splatters of paint.
  10. Wait 24 hours before hanging shelves and décor in your closet to create your new cloffice!
