How to Paint Over Rust

+
Refinished Toolbox project

After

Don’t toss that rusty toolbox. Instead, make it look new again with the help of Rust-Oleum spray paint and primer.

Before painting, use a wire brush to remove loose rust from your toolbox and then clean it with a lint-free rag. Then gently sand the entire toolbox and tray, clean it again with soap and water, and let it dry.

Now you’re ready to apply primer and paint. First, give your toolbox a coat of Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Rusty Metal Primer. Let it dry for 15 minutes, and then apply one or two light coats of Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Hammered Spray Paint.

Restore the metallic tray with a light coat or two of Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Metallic Spray Paint to complete your project.
