Find a spot outside and cover nearby items with drop cloths or old sheets to protect them from spray paint mist.
Wipe off the outside of the bottles and glass ornaments with denatured alcohol, using a lint-free cloth.
Allow to dry for 15 minutes.
Sand the entire surface of the wooden crate lightly, progressing from 120-grit to 180-grit sandpaper, and finishing with 220-grit sandpaper. Always sand in the direction of the grain.
Remove sanding dust between each grit of sandpaper by lightly dragging the tack cloth across the surface.
Let the stain sit for 2-3 minutes, then wipe off any excess using a clean rag. Wipe in the direction of the grain. Ensure that all excess stain is removed from the surface.
Hold the paint can 12-14” from the surface. Press the spray trigger and begin covering the surface in a steady, back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke.
Apply 2 or more light coats a few minutes apart. For best results, apply multiple light coats versus one heavy coat.
Allow to dry for 2-4 hours.
Repeat the steps above to paint the ornaments.
Allow to dry for 2-4 hours.
Once dry, assemble your wooden winter basket and display.
