Glittery Joy Sign

+
Joy sign spray painted with red glitter.

PREPARE: Locate a well ventilated space for completing your project, and spread out your drop cloth to protect your surroundings from possible overspray. If your sign has built-in lights, protect them from spray paint with a bit of painter’s tape.

SAND: Lightly sanding the sign will help remove any loose paint or debris from the project, ensuring a smooth surface for your next step. Remove any sanding dust from your sign by wiping the surface with a tack cloth or a clean and damp cotton cloth.

PRIME: Next, apply a coat of Rust-Oleum® Painter’s Touch® 2X Ultra Cover® Spray Primer. Priming forms a tight bond to surfaces so your topcoat goes on smoother and lasts longer. Simply shake the can for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Then apply the primer, holding the can 10-16" from your project in a steady, back-and-forth motion. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart to avoid drips and runs. The primer is ready to be top coated within one hour of drying.

PAINT: Now you are ready to spray paint your sign with Rust-Oleum® Glitter spray paint. First, shake your can of Glitter spray paint for one minute after the mixing ball starts to rattle. Hold the can 12-14” away from the surface and spray, using the same technique you used to prime. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart. Your sign will be dry to the handle in 60 minutes and fully dry within 24 hours. We used Red Glitter, but Rust-Oleum offers many other festive paint colors (Green, Silver and Gold)!

TIP: For added protection, continued shine and brilliance, topcoat your completed project with Rust-Oleum Glitter Clear Sealer.
