Looking for a Valentine’s Day craft? DIY wooden candy heart message blocks, inspired by iconic Valentine’s Day candy hearts, are an easy and creative way to convey your love.
PREPARE: Always work in a well-ventilated area and cover your work space with a drop cloth to protect it from paint spray.
PRIME: To ensure your paint goes on evenly, start out with a base of primer on each block. To apply the primer, first shake your can of Rust-Oleum® Painter’s Touch® Ultra Cover 2X primer spray in Flat White for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Then, hold the can 10-16” away from the blocks, and spray in a steady, back-and-forth motion. Spray two or more light coats, waiting a few minutes in between each coat.
PAINT: Now that your blocks are primed, it’s time to start painting. Shake your can of Rust-Oleum® Painter’s Touch® Ultra Cover 2X® spray paint in Gloss Candy Pink for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Then, holding the can 10-16” away from the first block, spray the paint in a sweeping motion, applying at least two coats a few minutes apart. Cover the entire block, and then set it aside to dry. Repeat this step on the other two blocks with Gloss Apple Red and Gloss White. Let all three of your blocks dry completely for 24 hours.
DECORATE: Once your blocks are totally dry, shake your Testors Paint Pen in Satin Black for about 30 seconds. Then, use the pen and a stencil (if needed) to write messages on the blocks similar to those you would find on candy hearts for Valentine’s Day. Let the paint dry for two hours before displaying your new décor.
