Pink Pumpkins

+
Three pink pumpkins on a table.

With October comes Halloween, which means it's prime time for pumpkin decorating. But October is also noteworthy for another reason -- Breast Cancer Awareness. These painted pink pumpkins let you mark both occasions in a single DIY Halloween décor project.

PREPARE: Sand any rough areas on the craft pumpkins and wipe them clean with a tack cloth. Be sure to cover your work area with a drop cloth to protect it from overspray. Before you begin spray painting, place your first pumpkin on top of a cup or bowl to make it easier to rotate while you're painting. You'll also have more access to the bottom of the pumpkin so your paint will get better coverage.

PRIME: Shake your can of
Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2X Spray Primer in Flat White for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can upright 10-16” from the pumpkin and spray in a steady, back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart. Let the primer dry for about 20 minutes.

PAINT: Next, shake your can of
Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2X Gloss Spray Paint (we used Gloss Berry Pink and Gloss Candy Pink) for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can upright 10-16” from the surface and spray in a steady, back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart to avoid drips. Let the spray paint dry for about 1 hour.

GLITTER: Once the pumpkin is dry, you have the option of adding pink glitter for extra sparkle. To add the glitter, shake your can of
Rust-Oleum Glitter Spray Paint for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can upright 12-14” from the pumpkin and spray in a steady, back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart. Let the glitter dry for about 20 minutes. Then, shake your can of Rust-Oleum Glitter Clear Sealer and spray the pumpkin in a similar fashion. Apply two or more light coats of the sealer a few minutes apart.

FINISH: Repeat these steps on each pumpkin. Let your pumpkins dry completely for 24 hours.

Once the pumpkins are completely dry, place them on your porch to show your Halloween spirit as well as support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
