DIY Painted Laminate Wood Kitchen Floor

Completely change the look of your laminate kitchen floor on a budget! Rust-Oleum HOME Floor Coating is a hassle free, two-part system that requires no stripping, sanding or priming and creates long-lasting results you'll love.

  1. To get started, make sure your floor is clean of dirt and debris and dry. We recommend using Original Krud Kutter Cleaner and Degreaser.
  2. Apply painter's tape along the edges and anywhere you don't want to paint. Start by trimming the edges with the Rust-Oleum HOME Base Coat using a high-quality brush.
  3. Then, apply the Rust-Oleum HOME Base Coat in 4’x4’ sections, and maintain a wet edge while rolling. Do not let product puddle. One coat is recommended. After coating the entire floor, wait 6 hours before applying any necessary touch-ups. Allow touched-up areas to dry for 1-2 hours (dry to touch) and then Top Coat can be applied. If no touch ups are necessary, Top Coat may be applied 6 hours after initial Base Coat application.
  4. Next, apply the Rust-Oleum Home Top Coat.First, trim the edges using a high quality brush. Then, roll the Top Coat in 4’x4’ sections and maintain a wet edge while rolling. Do not let product puddle. One coat is recommended. If a second coat is desired for additional durability or uniformity, wait until the first coat is dry to touch (1-2 hours) before applying, but must be applied within 24 hours.
  5. Allow the floor to dry for 24 hours before walking on it. Allow 72 hours before replacing any furniture (avoid dragging). Full cure is 7 days. Do not wash before 7 days.
