Blogger Project - Bathroom floor showing its age? Instead of replacing it, you can paint it! Rust-Oleum HOME Floor Coating is a two-part floor paint system that requires no stripping, sanding or priming. See how Kristin Dion Design painted her tile floor to give her bathroom a refreshed, updated look for a fraction of the cost of new tiles.

  1. Make sure your floor is clean of dirt and debris and dry.

  2. Apply painter's tape along the border edges and anywhere else you don't want paint.

  3. Apply one coat of Rust-Oleum HOME floor paint (color shown Steam Gray) in 4’x4’ sections, and maintain a wet edge while rolling. Do not let the floor paint puddle. After painting the entire floor, wait 6 hours before completing any necessary touch-ups. Let touched-up areas dry to the touch (1-2 hours).

  4. If you want to add a painted tile floor design, complete this step before applying the top coat. After the base coat of floor paint has dried for 6 hours, use painter’s tape to create your desired pattern. To recreate the pattern pictured here, tape a triangle (covering half of the tile) on every other tile. Line the painter's tape up against the grout lines to keep a straight edge and then lay one piece of painter's tape across the center of the tile. Apply the second color of floor paint within the taped design using an angled paint brush. Carefully pull off the tape while the second color of floor paint is still wet. Wait 6 hours before completing any necessary touch-ups. Let touched-up areas dry to the touch (1-2 hours).
  5.  After the painted floor tile has dried for 6 hours, apply Rust-Oleum HOME Top Coat in 4’x4’ sections, and maintain a wet edge while rolling. Do not let the top coat puddle. If a second top coat is desired for additional durability or uniformity, wait until the first coat is dry to touch (1-2 hours) but no more than 24 hours.

  6. Wait 24 hours before allowing light foot traffic on the painted tile floor. Let the paint dry for 72 hours before replacing furniture (avoid dragging). The floor paint will be fully cured in 7 days. Do not wash the floor until the paint is fully cured.
