  1. Cut two pieces 6 1/2" x 4 1/2".
  2. Cut two pieces 7 1/2" x 5 1/2"
  3. Glue two 16" pieces together face-to-face.
  4. Clamp the 6 1/2" piece to the 7 1/2" piece, forming an L shape; pre-drill from the bottom of the 7 1/2" piece; glue and screw together using 2" screws. Repeat this procedure for the other pieces.
  5. Cut two triangular pieces at 45 degrees from the face-glued assembly, measuring 7 3/4" on the long side.
  6. Sand all parts with the 80 then the 120 grit.
  7. Clamp and pre-drill from the underside and backside of the L-shaped assembly into the triangular pieces.
  8. Glue and screw together using 2" screws.
  9. Apply several coats of spray paint. It is not necessary to sand between coats.
  10. Position cleats in the center of the triangular pieces; mark holes for screws and pre-drill for screws.
  11. Attach cleats and, if desired, adhesive-backed rubber feet to prevent the bookends from slipping.
