Chalkboard paint on garage cabinet doors adds fun and organization to your space. Use the chalkboard cabinet doors to write reminders, to-do lists, messages and more.

PREPARE: Always work in a well-ventilated area and use a drop cloth to protect from drips and spills.

PAINT: Use your Rust-Oleum Cabinet Transformations Kit (we tinted ours to Winter Fog) to give the cabinets a fresh, new color. For full instructions on how to use the cabinet paint, watch this Cabinet Transformations application video. Once the cabinet paint is completely dry, you’re ready to add the chalkboard paint.

CHALKBOARD: Use painter’s tape to line the recessed panels on the cabinets. To prevent paint from dripping on the other parts of the cabinets, you can also cover the rest of the cabinets with masking paper. Next, stir your Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Brush-On Paint thoroughly with a stir stick. Then, use a foam roller to apply three coats of chalkboard paint to each panel, waiting 2-4 hours in between each coat. For a smooth, even finish, use light and even strokes and avoid excessive rolling.

FINISH: Let the chalkboard paint cure for three days. Once it’s cured, condition the chalkboard by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire surface and then erase with a chalkboard eraser or dry cloth. Once the surface is completely conditioned with chalk, your chalkboard cabinets are ready for use!
