At any wedding, it's important to have a place for guests to put their cards--especially if you’re expecting a large number of guests. Don't waste your money on an expensive card box! Here’s how to make your own unique wedding card box for your special day from a standard mailbox.
- PREPARE: Always work in a well ventilated area and use a drop cloth to protect your surroundings from overspray. Gently clean the mailbox by wiping it with a lint-free rag. Remove the flag from the mailbox and gently sand the entire box and flag. This will smooth imperfections and help the paint adhere. Clean both items with soap and water and let them dry completely before painting.
- PAINT: Shake your can of Stops Rust Metallic spray paint in Rose Gold for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can 12-14" from the mailbox and apply 1-2 light coats a few minutes apart. Spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Repeat these steps to paint the flag, using Stops Rust Bright Coat Metallic spray paint in Gold to create a two-tone effect.
- FINISH: Let the mailbox and flag dry separately for 24 hours. Once they are both dry, reattach the flag.
To make the mailbox wedding-ready, we added some fresh flowers and a vintage picture frame. Now, you have a safe and stylish box for your wedding cards, and one less detail to worry about on the big day. It’s time to celebrate!
