Floating shelves create functional and stylish storage for any room in your home. Learn how to give your own wood floating shelves a finishing touch with Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain. 

1. Lightly sand the shelves with #180 - #220 grit sandpaper and remove sanding dust. We recommend Gator Finishing sanding products. With a lint-free cloth, generously apply Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain in the color of your choice. Let the stain sit on the wood for 2-3 minutes, based on the richness of color you prefer.
2. Wipe off excess stain in the direction of the wood grain with a clean, lint-free cloth. Let the wood stain dry for 1 hour.
3. Following the instructions on the can, apply Varathane Ultimate Polyurethane for added durability and protection, allowing 2 hours between coats. Allow the polyurethane to dry for 24 hours.
4. Hang shelves and enjoy!
