Give a traditional rattan chair an entirely new look with just a few coats of spray paint. See how this painted chair adds modern flair to this office space.
Before spray painting, make sure your chair is thoroughly clean and dry.
Working in a well-ventilated space, first apply a coat of Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover Primer to the chair, following the instructions on the can’s label.
After you apply primer, you’re ready to use spray paint. For this project, we used Rust-Oleum Stops Rust in Matte Hammered Black. Hold the can of spray paint in the color of your choice upright and 8-12” from surface of your chair. Apply the paint in a steady, back-and forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface and in motion while in use.
Apply two or more light coats of spray paint a few minutes apart for best results.
The paint will be dry to the touch in 30 minutes, to handle in 1 hour and fully dry in 24 hours. Recoat within 1 hour or after 48 hours.
