Spray Painted Cake Stand DIY After

  1. PREPARE: Sand any rough areas on the cake stand and wipe them clean with a tack cloth. Be sure to cover your work area with a drop cloth to protect it from overspray.

TIP: Before you begin spray painting, place your cake stand on top of a cup or bowl to make it easier to rotate while you're painting. You'll also have more access to the bottom of the cake stand so your paint will get better coverage.
  2. PRIME: Shake your can of Ultra Cover 2x Primer spray (we used Flat Black) for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can upright 10-16” from the pumpkin and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart. Let the primer dry for about 20 minutes.

  3. PAINT: Next, shake your can of Ultra Cover 2x Gloss spray paint (we used Gloss Black) for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can upright 10-16” from the surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart to avoid drips. Let the paint dry for about 1 hour.

  4. GLITTER: Once the cake stand is dry, you have the option of adding glitter for extra sparkle. To add the glitter, shake your can of Glitter spray paint for 1 minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle, hold the can upright 12-14” from the pumpkin and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Apply two or more light coats a few minutes apart. Let the glitter dry for about 20 minutes. Then, shake your can of Glitter Clear Sealer and spray the pumpkin in a similar fashion. Apply two or more light coats of the sealer a few minutes apart.

  5. FINISH: Place your sweets and treats on a plate and display it on your cake stand for friends and family to admire and devour!
