HANGING GEODES ROOM DIVIDER

Turn an everyday rolling rack into a DIY room divider using Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer and Metallic Spray Paint. See how we change it up with three different looks. From plant stand to mini library to dangling crystals and geodes, this portable room divider can serve multiple purposes!

  1. For best adhesion, lightly scuff the metal rack with #220-grit sandpaper or a sanding sponge and remove sanding dust with a tack cloth. We recommend Gator Finishing sanding products.
  2. Tape off any areas you do not want to paint, including the wheels.
  3. In a well-ventilated area, following the instructions on the can, spray a few light coats of Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer to the rolling rack.
  4. Add a warm metallic look with Stops Rust Metallic Spray Paint in Champagne Bronze. Shake the can for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Holding the can 10-16” from the surface of the rack, apply light coats a few minutes apart to avoid drips. Continue to shake the can between coats.
  5. To create a stained wood shelf for your portable room divider, lightly sand the wood that has been cut to fit the rolling rack with #180-grit sandpaper.
  6. To stain the shelf, first gently stir the stain. Then, using a lint-free cloth, generously apply Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain to the wood shelf. Allow the stain to penetrate for 2-3 minutes, then remove excess stain by wiping with a rag in the direction of the grain. For richer color penetration, let stain sit for an additional 1-2 minutes prior to wiping. For added protection, after the stain has dried, apply Varathane Ultimate Polyurethane, according to the directions on the can. Allow the polyurethane to dry for 24 hours.
  7. Place the stained wood shelf on your newly primed and painted room divider and decorate it to your style. We’ve turned it into a mobile plant stand, mini library and geode art piece. The possibilities are endless!
